We were originally following the instructions/code from this article to hide/show post content to subscribers. Specifically, post content that was made up primarily of custom fields.
The code in that article appears to be buggy/not work consistently. The main issue I encounter is the cookie can't always be found and it doesn't feel as robust as the plugins internal subscriber_can_view check.
Recommendation
Update the article so users know there is a public subscriber_can_view function that can be accessed in a theme to check if a user has access to an article.
