Proposal to register xqemu.org #7
Comments
I don't feel strongly either way. We can register both and forward traffic from one to the other. |
I went ahead and picked up xqemu.org so someone nefarious wouldn't get the opportunity to squat on it instead. I can immediately provide delegated admin access to you guys with full rights to transfer away from me (consider it a donation) if desired, I'll just need your Namecheap username. I also own xboxarchive.org and xboxarchive.com with the intent of possibly building a more centralized community off of that in the future. I feel it's generic/flexible enough to survive project renames or maintainers coming and going, cover multiple Xbox platforms, have a main news portal, forum, wiki, emulator-specific sub-directories/domains etc. If we're really serious about preservation a paid escrow service to provide quorum or emergency access to certain things might also be something worth considering. Infrastructure should at least exist to periodically aggregate all community content into publicly downloadable backups (sanitized where needed in the case of private messages or password hashes for example) that could easily be restored. Too often things are removed from the internet losing years of valuable information/research disenfranchising newcomers from getting more involved. |
@Ernegien Can you set up a redirect for xqemu.org to xqemu.com for now? That'll be better than the 404 we get currently. |
Is it somehow possible to make http://xqemu.org/developers/ forward to https://xqemu.com/developers/ etc.? It currently all forwards to the main page, instead of the linked article. I usually just link to http://xqemu.org/ unless a link to a specific page is necessary. I personally despise the .com TLD for FOSS projects, and I'd like to migrate all of my links as I assume a full domain move in the future. (Ideally xqemu.org would also handle HTTPS, but that's not too critical for me) |
This is a proposal to move xqemu.com (com-mercial) to xqemu.org (org-anization).
I always found it odd that we use .com as our primary TLD.
As the website is now more useful than before, I suggest we do this change early, before it is linked too often.
It will be harder to migrate the more links refer to the .com-domain already.
Wether we'd keep xqemu.com is also up for discussion.
