In w3ctag/design-reviews#292 it came to our attention that reader APIs which do some form of filtering should have a consistent keyword associated with it.

Selectors follow the naming convention "query" something, is this something we can live with? (I don't have strong opinions on one or the other)

Doesn't it depend on the kind of filtering? filter / match / query could all make sense (and have), depending on the context.

It could be. I raised it so we can do something about it - this issue has come up multiple times.

I guess I'm saying that some exposition on the problem would help as I'm not sure I follow.

Echoing what @annevk is saying, I think a list of examples of reader APIs which do some form of filtering would really help move discussion forwards.
