I am interested to discuss a slightly old issue: #12 It was briefly discussed in January in WECG.

It seems blocked on a security aspect in Chromium, and Mozilla has already shipped it. It would be good to know the plans of non-Mozilla vendors on shipping this. There's a crbug but it hasn't had any activity since last October.

StackOverflow has a few questions on cross-origin content script messaging, the most verbose being this one, most of which can be easily (perhaps, correctly) resolved if an API similar to the one proposed above is implemented (by passing the message via the background page). There have been other discussions on this in the past, see for example this.
