In the research and development for APCA (the contrast method for WCAG 3) one thing we determined is that spatial frequency is critically linked to colors and luminance contrast perception.
For our purposes, spatial frequency means font weight, font size, letter spacing, line spacing, etc.
Thus, the discussion of font size/weight in inseparably linked to color and luminance contrast.
