Emacs OOMs with pdf-tools on Arm32, Android 6. #293
-
Hello, everyone. I know that this is a very unusual setup, but I am enjoying it so much that I think that I'd ask everyone for help resolving a minor issue in it. So, I'm running a not-yet-reased Emacs on Android 6, with poppler from Termux. Both apps are re-signed with the android test key in order to be able to run each other. I am describing how to replicate this setup in my howto, even though it's a bit involved. https://lockywolf.net/2024-08-07_Using-an-ebook-instead-of-a-laptop.d/index.html#pdf-tools The link is with the anchor, but feel free to read the whole howto. The problem is that Emacs OOMs. On Android 6, Emacs sometimes OOMs when there are too many images in a buffer, but pdf-view-mode works just fine, I've tried it on PDFs with hundreds of pages. Doc-view-mode uses ghostscript. But pdf-tools makes emacs oom, even though I've managed to sort of push it a little further by disabling cache and trying imagemagick. Does anyone have an idea how this can be fixed? Is there and switch to turn off even more caching? Or maybe a poppler build switch? |
