Description

Neither voice nor video calls will end after signing out (unless you manually end the call first). The call remains active as long as the browser tab is open. The problem is that this is not obvious to the user who signed out, so they may be unaware that the other party is still receiving their full audio/video stream.

Side note: Once in this state, you can sign in again as the same user just fine and then proceed to manually end the call. Signing in as a different user will cause an error message to be displayed. This may be a separate bug of its own, but it's probably closely related to this one, so I thought it was worth mentioning here.

Steps to reproduce

  • Go to https://app.element.io
  • Place voice or video call to any contact
  • Wait for contact to accept call
  • Sign out without ending the call

Expected behavior: Call ends
Actual behavior: Call remains active

Logs being sent: no

Version information

  • Platform: web (in-browser)
  • Browser: Firefox 85.0 (64-bit)
  • OS: Ubuntu 18.04.5
  • URL: app.element.io
