I have been pointed out that every distribution should use hwdata instead of directly using upstream usb.ids or pci.ids.

It happens that the upstream usb.ids has issues that have been patched in Debian in the usb.ids package:

As they concern sections that are neither USB devices nor the USB devices classes, it is not possible to submit such fixes through the web interface, and the mail robot also rejects them. Therefore, would it be possible to fix this at the hwdata level?

Thanks, both patches look good and definitely makes sense to apply them in my opinion. But I'm not very fond of maintaining them downstream. Did you try to contact Stephen Gowdy directly (or other contact from http://www.linux-usb.org/usb-ids.html) that would avoid the mail robot first?

Yes, I have tried contacting him a few times. Anyway I have tried to send another email to [email protected] last week (I haven't found any other address), no answer so far, let's see if the changes are in the next usb.ids update.

usb.ids version 2024.12.04 got released and doesn't include the patch I have sent and I received no feedback either.
