Would be nice to provide an interactive interface similarly to the what can I do for Mozilla .org site. However, I feel it somewhat hides the full list of needs for our user group.

The mozilla links seems like a nice UX and i understand the point about it possibly hiding the list of needs. What about adding a "Straight to the point" call to action that would lead to a full list of how to get involved? Maybe not so blunt.
