I keep getting this error message:

"Error while saving:
File changed on server
The site has been updated since you first loaded it. Saving now would cause those updates to be overwritten.
Try reloading and then reapplying your changes."

This started today - yesterday everything worked fine. I logged in and out a couple of times and cleared my browser cache, it didn't change anything. I'm using Firefox 109.0 (32-Bit), but it also happened on Chrome. Does anyone have tips on what to do? Thank you!!!

Not sure why it's happening, but there's a workaround- Set the save method to "upload save" as described at https://github.com/simonbaird/tiddlyhost/wiki/About-the-two-different-save-methods .

Okay, I tried that and it seems to be working. Thanks a lot!

It's been reported a couple of times, so maybe there's a bug. I'll keep this open.

I've started running into this bug. It doesn't happen with a Feather Wiki, but I get the error message whenever I try to save a TiddlyWiki "external core" or "self-contained" wiki.

This is the error message text:

Error while saving:

File changed on server

The site has been updated since you first loaded it. Saving now would cause those updates to be overwritten.

Try reloading and then reapplying your changes.

@dkbg I'm assuming a reload at that point and hitting save again doesn't make the problem go away - is that right?

I thought it might be a Firefox extension causing the issue, seems I was right. I tried with a clean profile and I can save without issue. No idea which extension it could be and I have quite a few so it would take some time to narrow it down.

Hi,
I'm encountering this issue now, too, or some version of it. I do update my wikis from multiple devices, so I'm accustomed to seeing the "File changed on server..." message occasionally. But usually I can reload and then am able to save again. As of today, however, reloading doesn't help anymore.

I see @simonbaird's comment above re: changing the save method, but I don't see that option:

Am I maybe looking in the wrong place?

Here's a few other observations:

  • The site having the issue is private, running TiddlyWiki 5.3.3 in external core mode.
  • I have multiple sites with this same configuration. So far, only one of them exhibits the issue.
  • Doesn't seem to be browser-related in my case. I've tried from both my laptop (running Manjaro Linux) and phone (Samsung), via multiple browsers on each, and get the same result each time.

Many, many thanks in advance for any help!

Update: I upgraded the problematic site to the TiddlyWiki 5.3.6 and that has fixed it for now. Not sure whether it was the upgrade itself or the re-upload which did the trick. Will post again if I have any further issue.
