You don't need admin access to use vibe, have you tried? |

I used it for a week.Yesterday, Microsoft's Endpoint Solution Defender started blocking it under the attack surface reduction rules. If I was an admin account, then I could unblock it and add Vibe as an exception to the ASR rules and grant it access to the controlled folder.
Now, I do have admin access in my organization, but for security reasons, everyone runs their day-to-day through a standard profile. I can switch accounts, go into an admin account, and then greenlight the app through that account, but that doesn't change for the standard profile account.
When I'm logged into my standard profile account, I can't run the security control panel as an admin to then unblock the app for the ASR rules.
It's neither here nor there, it's just a quirk of the attack surface reduction approach of Microsoft Defender and Windows 10 Pro.
I could take the time to go into the domain to add an exception for Vibe, but the exceptions in Microsoft Defender focus on a static location. In this case, it's not static, because Vibe installs into the local folder for the user.
I also tried installing the app under administrative access into program files and into the documents folder from my profile. Neither of those worked. I also tried installing it into a separate directory off of the root that I named Temp.
The short of it is that without an actual verified install program this app will continue to be flagged by Microsoft Defender as a possible risk and under the attack surface reduction rules it will get blocked and won't be able to run under a Standard profile. I don't begrudge the project that you are devoting so much time to not having a install program verified or signed through Microsoft. I don't expect that from a GitHub project that's open source.
I can still use it on my home computer, and I can still recommend it to others, and will continue to do so. But I've had to find a different solution for work, and since work can pay for a license, I'll probably use Speech Pulse.
I wish I had the time and expertise to chip in to the project because this has been very fun.

Windows Defender / Endpoint's ASR feature means Vibe only works if I have admin access (and can unblock the app and the folder access). I have admin access, since I'm the IT partner at our business, but for security reasons, my user profile has to be standard, not administrator. I know it's a pain, but I need an install that works with a standard user profile (after the initial install with administrative access). Thank you for all that you have done with this, though!
