In reviewing other approaches, many include a pre-set list (e.g., + / -) and I wonder if there is an easy way to have a drop-down menu with simple images to help kids insert emojis to help illustrate and reserve just a single space for it? We can fake it now but building it in might be interesting. Here is a meaningless (mostly) example:
But the idea might be to include + / - and thumbs up and others?

This should be relatively easy to do (I think). You can probably already have kids insert emojis now using the "Edit > Emojis & Symbols" menu though you'd have to hunt for the right emoji.
Yup! That's how I did it :) Just thinking out loud if there is a way to scaffold it that will help scaffold the kids using them to convey something useful as I bet they'd just enjoy making lots of silly pics. Still pondering and when we get the grant we can decide. Thanks!
