Debian 11:
If anyone is having trouble with mtr or trace running here is the fix:

nano /etc/php/7.4/fpm/php.ini
or
nano /etc/php.ini

add or edit
max_execution_time = 300
request_terminate_timeout = 300

systemctl restart php7.4-fpm.service
