There seems to be an issue with speaker and headphone output with the lemp10 with Windows. It seems like the audio signals are being configured in such a way that maybe the output signal is being canceled.

I contacted support and communicated the issue in #106377 and they said I should post an issue here. They also said they do not have a lemp10 in the lab with Windows 10 for testing. This is unfortunate as I think the issue should have been easily reproduced internally.

Tested:
Many different headphones that work fine on all other devices
Windows update drivers
Clevo L140MU drivers
Chipset drivers from this repository
Tried to check for quirks in Linux kernel to give hints but didn't find them

This test video easily demonstrates the issue:

There seems to be a decent amount of people who are having the same issue on Reddit and other forums. They either have to use an external audio interface or Bluetooth. As this is a basic function of the laptop and you provide windows drivers it would be nice to see this get fixed.

Thanks

Thank you for reaching out.

I just wanted to clarify, after confirming with the support team, that we do have a lemp10 in the lab, but the support team does not test Windows issues as per policy stated in the Windows installation support article:

System76 encourages users to take ownership of their machines and install whatever software or operating systems they prefer. However, System76 does not guarantee the success or quality of experience when installing Windows and does not provide support or testing for any Windows version. Please do not open a support ticket for anything other than clarification of the steps covered in this article. The contents of this support article are the total extent of support and troubleshooting that System76 can provide for Windows. Any Windows-related support for System76 hardware not covered in this article is beyond the scope of support provided by System76. Please refer to Microsoft's official troubleshooting documentation or other online resources.

We maintain an operating system (Pop!_OS) and also guarantee Ubuntu support on all of our hardware; Windows is not an OS that we are licensed to sell or that we spend serious resources on for most of our products. We do provide drivers and test for at least the minimum viable functionality when preparing to launch products. I'll try to confirm this behavior soon to see if the driver situation for lemp10 has changed.

So what is the actual problem?

Audio phase canceling or some other kind of severe abnormal behavior in Windows that breaks audio in Windows. The audio sounds very broken.

Needs retesting on latest firmware release 2022-11-21_b337ac6.

Was there a related fix in that release?
