Right now the VU meter looks at the end of the chain. Suggestion from a correspondent which I thought was a really good idea
By the way, a related but small problem is that it’s currently difficult when creating sounds to know the correct overall level to shoot for so that patches generally have the same level. The reason is that the Output meter is affected by the Global Volume Slider, which is not obvious and therefore can lead users to set their patch level erroneously if Global Volume is less than 100%. My preference would be to move the meter to the Output section and show pre-Global Volume level, then the Global Volume would merely attenuate the final output. But I understand that’s a big UI change. A simpler solution would be to have an right-click option for the meter that permits it to pre- or post- the Global Volume slider, with a default setting of Pre. But this is small potatoes. :)
and that made me think - why not just allow, pre scope but during the 1.1 lifetime, the vu meter to monitor at several spots in the SurgeSynthesizer processBlock rather than just the end. If you edit it draw a little string on the meter so you know what you are seeing. RMB on the VU. etc... we can imagine the drill.
