My font size in the variable explore is weird #20960
Comments
Hi, so to carry on the above post, I mentioned that the font size in my variable explore looks weird. Below, you can see it. So in the index of the dataframe, the font size seems bigger than the column names and the dataframe's values. May I please know what went wrong and how do I fix it? Previously I was using Spyder with Anaconda on Windows (probably not the latest version of both) and everything seems to be fine. I do not have all the issues in this post. However, I recently switched to Linux and am facing all these issues. Regarding the font size, I tried changing it in Spyder, via |
Hi @jonng1000 thank you for the feedback! It seems like some of the warnings/errors you are seeing when launching Spyder are related with your GPU/OpenGL and other graphics related packages/libraries. Maybe checking is your GPU is properly setup could be useful? Regarding the variable explorer font size differences, maybe checking under Let us know if something of the above helps! |
Hey @jonng1000, thanks for reporting. You said:
If Spyder is not showing any problems, I think you can safely ignore them.
We'll fix that problem in Spyder 6, to be released during the second half of the year. |
Hi @dalthviz and @ccordoba12, thanks so much for your reply, I appreciate it alot! =). Also wanted to say, thanks so much for helping us to develop and fix Spyder! I was trained as a biologist (zero programming knowledge) and when I made the switch to doing bio research using data science, I started with using Spyder to learn python. Using Spyder has been a great experience for me and I'm really grateful to you guys for coming up with this tool to help people learn programming. @dalthviz I tried your suggestions, not entirely sure how to rigorously check and fix OpenGL/GPU problems so what I did was to update my AMD drivers. I'm using AMD Ryzen™ 7 5700U which doesnt have drivers for Linux so I updated it in Windows (have a dual-boot laptop, and Windows was the default installed OS). In my Linux OS, I checked the OpenGL version and its 4.6, so its the latest version. I also played around with the @ccordoba12 ok sounds great! Looking forward to my issues disappearing in Spyder 6 then. Thanks so much! =) Good to know I can continue to use Spyder as is =). |
Thanks a lot @jonng1000 for your kind words!! They are really important for us because they keep us motivated to keep working on the project. It's also nice to know that you find Spyder useful for your work and you want to help us to improve it by engaging with us. |
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
From a fresh Anaconda and Spyder install, from following the installation instructions from Spyder's website (https://docs.spyder-ide.org/current/installation.html)
I also followed the instructions to create a new environment to run spyder, spyder-env. However, when I run it, I get the following warnings/errors
(base) jon@jonlaptop:~$ conda activate spyder-env
(spyder-env) jon@jonlaptop:~$ spyder

My spyder seems to run normally so I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it. However, the font size in my variable explorer seems a bit off (this post doesnt allow me to put pics, so I will try to do it in a subsequent post), so I'm not sure if this is related?
Would appreciate help to solve this, thanks alot! =)
