I'm an IT specialist with more than 15 years of experience in various areas. While software is not my profession, I try to catch up on development in my spare time.

Like probably all of us, I made clear choices on (open source) software and it's amazing what you can achieve while being dedicated. Especially if you use the software you're contributing to, you can potentially bring in a whole different angle of perspective plus you have a certain influence on directions and decisions.
