We have NNZPerSlice (A) and CovPerSlice (B) and B needs A to be calculated. We shouldn't recalculate A every time a feature needs it. Where do we cache it?

a. cache feautures in formats.
b. Allow features to be passed as parameters "optionally" (described more in #166. <- personally leaning to this
