From 87268582a8d0b90af8974c376fef773f01f10880 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Illia Bobyr Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2023 01:07:47 -0700 Subject: [PATCH] zeroize: Allow versions newer than 1.3 for `aes-gcm-siv` `aes-gcm-siv` v0.10.3 has a constraints on maximum `zeroize` version, set to be 1.3 or below. At the same time, `cargo` does not want to construct a dependency graph with duplicate instances of a crate, when the first non-zero version of those instances are the same. That is, it refuses to build a workspace with both 1.3 and 1.4 versions of `zeroize`. `zeroize` is actually backward compatible, and `aes-gcm-siv` restriction is overly pessimistic. This package lifted this restriction in a newer versions, but we still depend on older versions and can not immediately update. In order to be able to use a version of `zeroize` newer than 1.3 we need to remove a similar restriction from `curve25519-dalek` as well. --- Cargo.lock | 3 +-- Cargo.toml | 41 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2 files changed, 42 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/Cargo.lock b/Cargo.lock index 8afcd1f638451b..5fa3936a833f7d 100644 --- a/Cargo.lock +++ b/Cargo.lock @@ -51,8 +51,7 @@ dependencies = [ [[package]] name = "aes-gcm-siv" version = "0.10.3" -source = "registry+https://github.com/rust-lang/crates.io-index" -checksum = "589c637f0e68c877bbd59a4599bbe849cac8e5f3e4b5a3ebae8f528cd218dcdc" +source = "git+https://github.com/RustCrypto/AEADs?rev=6105d7a5591aefa646a95d12b5e8d3f55a9214ef#6105d7a5591aefa646a95d12b5e8d3f55a9214ef" dependencies = [ "aead", "aes", diff --git a/Cargo.toml b/Cargo.toml index 509ffb6047ac9e..88ccec21f18cb2 100644 --- a/Cargo.toml +++ b/Cargo.toml @@ -422,6 +422,7 @@ wasm-bindgen = "0.2" winapi = "0.3.8" winreg = "0.50" x509-parser = "0.14.0" +# See "zeroize versioning issues" below if you are updating this version. zeroize = { version = "1.3", default-features = false } zstd = "0.11.2" @@ -454,3 +455,43 @@ crossbeam-epoch = { git = "https://github.com/solana-labs/crossbeam", rev = "fd2 # overrides in sync. solana-program = { path = "sdk/program" } solana-zk-token-sdk = { path = "zk-token-sdk" } +# +# === zeroize versioning issues === +# +# A number of packages used explicit upper bound on the `zeroize` package, such +# as `>=1, <1.4`.
