Running wix.py wixpy.json (FROM this REPOSITORY)
gives an error

Error reading JSON file! the JSON object must be str, not 'bytes'

It seems you have installed on py3. Try using py2. This one should resolve the issue.
Nevertheless we will fix this py3 issue
