Started a PR for this and realized some people might want to stick with 1.7.1 for a bit, so I'm going to add a configuration to set a version to use.

This would be actually nice to have merged. Leaflet 1.7.x has a bug which prevents popups on markers working on Safari. Leaflet 1.8.x has it fixed.
