Bug Description
After linking the Desktop app to a phone, viewing conversations with users for the first time erroneously reports "1 Unread Message" at the top of the conversation pane, above the security notice about not transferring conversation history, even if there are no new messages (according to the phone app) or even no conversation history with that user to begin with.
Steps to Reproduce
Link the app to a phone for the first time
Open any conversation with a contact
See the unread label, as shown
Actual Result:
A notice about an unread message is displayed above the warning about not syncing history. There is, however, no badge or titlebar indication of an unread message anywhere else. Clicking away from the conversation hides the message upon returning.
Expected Result:
This is the real question - I suppose this may be "by design" since the warning about not syncing history is kind of an 'unread message.' However, as a user, I don't consider system notifications or warnings like that to be "messages," which have a clear meaning in a chat app. Seeing "1 Unread Message" in this circumstance causes me to believe that I have new conversation history with this user, which leads to confusion when I cannot find the new message in the phone app. Even if this behavior was by design, I'd suggest removing the "1 Unread Message" text in this scenario.

There seems to be another issue where "1 unread message" shows up when receiving a video call on your phone while the desktop version is not running. In this case also a missed audio call shows up with a timestamp from when I opened the desktop app.
I think this might be a similar bug, where Signal doesn't transfer a notification (in this case about the video call I took a few hours ago) correctly and shows a "1 unread message" notification instead.
This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.
