Bug description

A short film that arrived on my iPhone is not appearing as anything more than a black screen & border on the desktop client, [and refuses to play] even after a restart.

[Edit: it apparently download fine, but wont' play. Format is *.3gpp]

Platform info

Ubuntu 16.04 fully updated
Signal 0.44.1 and 1.0.34 (I just migrated after receiving the blank video.)
Chromium Version 62.0.3202.62 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit)

Ah, so it's a problem with playback and not download? What do you know about the video format? What happens if you try to download that file to your filesystem (clicking the filename/size in the message bubble).

Ah, I see. You are totally correct. It is a playback rather than a download issue. It's a: signal-*.3gpp video.

I can play that fine once downloaded, but I can't play it in the Signal app.

Well, it plays in the iPhone app. Shouldn't it play in the stand-alone desktop app?

If it won't play in a web browser, it's not going to play in our app.

Doesn't chrome support 3gpp videos?

The quick search I did indicated that people generally transcode from 3gpp to something better-suited for web...
