[Suggestion] Add alphabetical “quick scroll” to Artist list and others #76

DESCRIPTION

When scrolling through a long list of Artists, it would be useful if an alphabet could appear on the right where you could click on a letter and be brought to the Artists in the list that start with that letter.

Currently the only ‘quick scroll’ ability is to the beginning or the end. This is great for artists starting with A or Z, but to reach the M artists (for exampe) it’s more tedious and labor intensive to scroll through a long list to get there.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I’m not sure of another open source app that does this, but the Synology DS Audio app is a great example of the behavior. Attaching screenshot where you can see the alphabet overlay on the right side, where you can click on a letter to be brought to that part of the list.

First thing that came to my mind when I saw this suggestion, was the Sailfish OS People app. It is closed source, but maybe it would be worthwhile to ask about this feature in the next community meeting? If you think this would be a good idea, I could add this topic to the next community meeting, March 14.

Since many apps could benefit from this kind of feature in different formats (alphabet, date, tag) it could be a nice addition to https://github.com/Pretty-SFOS as well. Given, that the license wouldn't be an issue.

I gave a quick look to the alphabetic scrollbar of the People application. It's not a component of Silica, but something developped specifically for the people application.

It would make sense though to raise the topic in a community meeting, asking if Jolla would be interested in migrating the code into Silica.

@dcaliste, would you mind adding the topic proposal for the next meeting? I think you would know better than me, what would be a good way to formulate the question. Just let me know if you are busy and I'll do it instead.

EDIT: I proposed the topic to the next community meeting. I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.

Thanks for getting this added to the community meeting. Pleased to see the Jolla response to the question of moving the alpha scroll from People to silica was positive. Now i guess we just wait to see if/when it happens?

* <Jolla> Yes, this could well be something to consider. It has some (rainemak, 08:43:38)
* <Jolla> references to contacts that should be cut before it could be even (rainemak, 08:43:38)
* <Jolla> considered to be moved to Silica. Very good suggestion! Needs more (rainemak, 08:43:38)
* <Jolla> thinking and planning.  (rainemak, 08:43:38)
