When the system fails to boot, you can check the boot logs through serial port.
First, connect the USB to TTL cable to the debugging serial port of the board.
Orange Pi 5's debugging serial port:

Rock 5A's do not have a debugging serial port, NixOS will print the boot log to UART2 by default, see the official documentation for the pin definition of UART2: Rock 5A pinout - Radxa Wiki
Then, use tools like 'screen' or 'minicom' to read and write to the serial port device.
