Background

While the reichlab-python-template is useful, there's still a lot of manual changes required when using it to create a new Python app.

Cookiecutter is a standard way that people solve this issue. Cookiecutter templates can be invoked via the command line, will prompt the user for their package name, and then generate a copy of the project with the correct package names, etc. already filled in.

Definition of done

  • reichlab-python-template is converted to a cookiecutter template
  • README and other docs are updated
