While following the RELEASING procedure during the 6.1 release (see #7703), I created the 6.1.x branch and asked pytestbot to make the release from it, but it failed because the script wants it to be created from master if there are breaking or feature changes. We should adjust one of the other.

I will try to look at this in a few days.
