Reasons for the request

The optimap project on PyPI is abandoned and does not contain any functional code. The project was initially uploaded in July 2021, and the latest update to the associated GitHub repository was in May 2022. The project remains empty, containing only metadata files and basic scaffolding code, such as project setup and CI configuration files. It does not contain any functions or classes, only an empty __init__.py file.

The state of the project meets the PEP 541 criteria for "name squatting":

project is name squatting (package has no functionality or is empty)

We want to replace it with an actively developed and maintained package for processing fluorescence imaging data with a particular focus on applications in cardiac research (optical mapping).

Contact and additional research

We have made multiple attempts to contact the current maintainer, @astropenguin, via the email address listed on the PyPI package. These attempts were made on July 5, 2022, December 20, 2022, August 19, 2023, and September 26, 2023. I have sent another email today, January 14, 2024, with a link to this PEP 541 request.
