Finally I use https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nim-node-inspector-manage/gnhhdgbaldcilmgcpfddgdbkhjohddkj?hl=en to trigger node inspector automatically

Not sure if it's the same issue. Ubuntu 16.04 thunderbird can open URLs with firefox as default just fine. When I try to make google chrome my default browser it breaks. When I click on a URL with thunderbird I get a new blank tab in google chrome.
