Hello -

I have a question regarding the June 30, 2024 implementations deadline for third party cookies.

Each approved cookie token submission provided the following response:

[PLEASE READ] A Deprecation Trial token for your third-party domain will be available in the OT console within an hour. The token must be implemented by June 30, 2024 to ensure cookies from your third-party origin are functional across all top level sites. More info here

The expiration for my tokens end on Dec 27, 2024 though.

I was wondering what was the purpose for the June 30, 2024 deadline and would my tokens become invalid if not implemented by then even though

Would I need to do a resubmission even though my tokens have an expiration date of Dec 27, 2024?

Any info / clarity would be helpful.

The June 30, 2024 date is for an automatic grace period where 3P cookies will be restored automatically. You need to deploy the DT token before June 30 to continue to receive 3P cookies. The DT tokens will work until Dec 27, 2024.

Edit: The intent of the grace period is to give you time to deploy the DT token.

Thanks for your quick response @wanderview
Does this automatic grace period where 3P cookies will be restored automatically. mean that 3p cookies will not work by June 30, 2024 if the DT token is not deployed?

My team is on a release cycle, is there a way to extend if the June 30,2024 date is missed?

This is the most recent information available on the DT grace period expiration:

@wanderview Can you clarify the difference between the grace period for DT and also the deadline for the Q1 2025 cookie phase out: https://developers.google.com/privacy-sandbox/3pcd

I'm confused since the two sound a bit conflicting for timelines.
Based on the June 30th, 2024, DT token implementation, it sounds like Google will deprecate tokens earlier than the Q1 2025 cookie phase out.

But the Q1 2025 cookie phase out sounds like Google will only deprecate to 100% during this deadline.
