System Information:

  • OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS (x86_64)
  • Host: VivoBook_ASUSLaptop X513IA_M513IA 1.0
  • Desktop Environment: COSMIC

Issue Description:

Currently, in Pop!_OS 22.04 with COSMIC desktop environment, the user is required to manually press the workspace button to move windows between workspaces. There is no intuitive way to drag and drop a window directly to an adjacent workspace.

Expected Behavior:
I expect to be able to click and hold a window, then drag it to the edge of the screen, triggering it to switch to the next workspace automatically, without needing to press the workspace button.

Suggested Improvement:
Implement hot corners or edge gestures that would allow users to seamlessly drag and drop windows across workspaces. For example:

  • Dragging a window to the left or right edge of the screen should move the window to the adjacent workspace.
  • Optionally, adding hot corner functionality for other workspace management actions.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open multiple workspaces.
  2. Try to drag a window to another workspace by moving it to the edge of the screen.
  3. Observe that the window doesn't move to the next workspace automatically. You must use the workspace button to switch manually.

Additional Information:
This feature would improve workflow by reducing the need for extra clicks and making workspace management more intuitive. Similar functionality is seen in other desktop environments like GNOME, where you can move windows across workspaces by dragging them to screen edges.

Thank you for considering this enhancement!
