At the plug committee meeting 17/02/14 we discussed whether it was reasonable that we are collecting and storing member phone details when we are not using them and can't justify there use.

Pros
In past years they have been used haphazardly to track down members when their email bounces

Cons
Its additional information at risk in the case of a data breach
We are possibly breaching the Privacy Act http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/pa1988108/s14.html

from feedback provided by committee it sounds like phone numbers are still being actively used to get hold of members and other committee members.

they are definitely not a requirement though so they should be clearly marked as being optional information.

Once the form has been updated we should probably send an email to members along the following lines

We're updating ugmm and want to make sure we have the right information.

We currently have the following numbers stored against your membership.
[phone numbers]

If you would like to update any of these please visit url.
If you would like to have these removed from our system please visit this url.
If these numbers are still up to date and you're happy for us to continue storing them you do not need to take any action.

For more information about how we use the membership data please visit our privacy policy.
