Splom labels running into each other

It might be nice for SPLOM (or grid generally?) to compute axis label orientation in a coordinated fashion, to avoid this kind of stuff where they run into each other weirdly:

We might also consider automargin improvements so that the axis labels are always aligned with each other, instead of "species" here being offset

Hi - this issue has been sitting for a while, so as part of our effort to tidy up our public repositories I'm going to close it.
