This has happened half a dozen times or so since the recent upgrades to CT, showing "Aw snap" in tab I've left open for a while (though this one was 45 minutes or less)

This has happened to me. Before the refactor I always got it and guessed it was that the tab took too much memory, though I don't know if that is the case now.

I've experienced this a few times over the past couple of weeks. I didn't report it because I typically don't leave CT open -- I check it, then close it.
