So I currently haven't fully switched to OwnCloud because it simply lacks one feature in iOS. Photo Auto upload.
But another thing I have noticed is the desktop client and iOS App always connects through the Internet, which means it always goes out to the internet and then back here to my OwnCloud server, however using QNAP & Synology's syncing programs they are able to detect when I am on my network with my NAS and connect to the local IP of the NAS, which obviously greatly speeds up data transmission, and when I am on a different network or in a public network it then connects to my public IP or my domain name. It picks the best connection all automatically, if I can tell it which to use.
Is this a feature that can be added?

This feature should be implemented on a routing/IP/webserver level. This is not possible to implement in ownCloud.

Care to point me in the right direction on how I would go about doing this? What would the the proper/best way?

Hi,

it could be handled by the applications itself. For this you need to create separate issues in the application repositories. For the desktop sync client a feature request exist:

owncloud/client#203

No idea about the iOS / android app.
