It would be great to combine the colour sampling features of the Kodi Hue plugin into this and publish to a topic.

Hm. What would you think is a necessary minimum sampling frequency (and area resolution?) for this to be useful?

For sampling frequency, I'd say multiple times per second, as the consumer can decide how quickly it can update the Hub (v1 vs v2(with Apple HomeKit support) have different upper limits on speed in my experience).

As for area resolution, Maybe a top, left, right and bottom? So people can pick the one which the best placement for the location of the light. This could then also be a potential replacement for boblight type setups.
