On my phone (6.5 inches) and on my tablet (7 inches) the automatic zoom during navigation is both starting too late and not zooming close enough. Together with the relatively too wide route line (that I have discussed in a different suggestion) this makes navigating more complex intersections quite difficult.
May I suggest that you either:
add a setting to change how long before the intersection the zooming starts and how much zoom is applied.
simply increase zoom and make it start zooming earlier.
As a general note, I am not sure whether zooming is based on speed or distance to an intersection/navigation instruction? I would suggest that if it is solely based on speed, this is not necessarily a good idea - some intersections like highway exits, for exemple, may be approached at much higher speed and in this case the lack of zooming is not very helpful.
