Testing Discussions for OpenWISP

We've been searching for a long time to find tools that could replace the OpenWISP Mailing List. GitHub Discussions might be a suitable alternative, as it allows newcomers to ask questions more easily without potentially overwhelming other new users. I've enabled it on most repositories within our organization, let's see how it works out!

Does this boil down to a single Discussions instance for all OpenWISP repositories or separate instances for each repository? I'm not sure about this:

• if I go to Discussionsin openwisp-controllerit takes me to https://github.com/orgs/openwisp/discussions
• if I go to Discussionsin ansible-openwisp2or netjsonconfigit takes me to https://github.com/openwisp/ansible-openwisp2/discussions or https://github.com/openwisp/netjsonconfig/discussions which seem like separate instances

The latter is not so good because newcomers will surely unintentionally choose the wrong repository for their discussion and that will lead to fragmentation and people not finding their questions already answered, because they are in a different repository.

@okraits the idea is to link the main discussion site from the website.

Users can ask questions about specific modules from the github of each module, but we can also transfer a discussion topic from one repository to another one if the user asks a question in the wrong section.

Github forces us to choose one main repository, so I chose openwisp-controller which is the most important and widely used module.

Unfortunately though, one downside I have already noticed is that since my email notifications are turned off on github, I didn't get notified for this discussion, I need to see if I can turn on email notifications only for discussions.

However, I think it's possible to configure hooks to send a message in the matrix chat each time someone posts to a github discussion.

I have email notifications turned off as well but I check Github at least once a day and then I see new notifications on the top right of the website. I know, that's not the same because you have to actively check but it works for me.

I started promoting Github discussions on the website, along the mailing list. I think it's fair to let users choose which one they prefer.

I have a question.
is it possible to integrate with Fortigate, FortiAp, mikrotik equipment.
For example, I can't find a normal admin panel for freeradius + hostpot, but then I found this project, deployed it, tested it... and I really liked it..
considering that there is ansible here, then the pairing API could be pulled from fortinet-ansible-dev, add custom support for other vendors
as a controller, except for openwrt.
