Ugh. And now found this in the menu on the left... https://docs.firefly-iii.org/how-to/data-importer/installation/self-managed/ |

I've tried to get this to work for a few hours, but the documentation is lacking. I had firefly III working on my server under a subdomain on the web on my private server. say finance.server.com
Then the guide says:
"This guide will assume you'll want to install both Firefly III and the Data Importer."
Tbh: I really only need the data importer at this point. But there is no documentation on how to install the importer seperately. So continuing on:
"If you already have a Firefly III installation, and you wish to expand it with the data importer, do not worry. You can simply follow this guide again and reinstall Firefly III. You will point to the same data volumes and the same databases, so nothing will be lost."
--> In my case, I had just unzipped the Firefly files and has it up and running quickly. Then I needed to import and the trouble started.
It's not a 'simple reinstall' but a different approach through docker, right?
But then this conflicts with the fact that I already have a webserver running. I have NGinx running on port 80 which reverse proxies to Apache on my 'finance.server.com'
After trial and error and much chatGPT, removed the files, and rebuilt the docker from scratch. Now, with everything supposedly up and running, still nothing happens when I go to finance.server.com:80 or :81. also, the documentation says the URL should now be 'http://app:8080' - which of course will never happen when I run this on the web. So now I don't even have Firefly working anymore at all :(
I'm lost on how to install this on a private server on the web, instead of a clean local system. Is the idea I shut down everything else in order to run the importer? Is this software to be used exclusively on local systems that do not have a webserver running? Even all my local systems have webservers running for dev work. Should I run this on a clean virtual machine? That would be a lot of hassle to just import my finances every month or so.
