Not available in my local language

Hi everyone, I am working on task 1, lesson effectiveness study and one thing I have noticed is that the courses are not available in my local language which is Amharic. Have any one of you guys encountered such problem. How are planning to deal with it or how have you dealt with it (if you have so)?

I am currently working on some simple guide in Amharic but I am just wondering what your opinion is on this matter. And dear Mentors @Kebith what do you say about this?

Hi @Bethelhem-Gebre, I haven't encountered such issue as I'm conducting the study in English language. However, since the courses aren't available in Amharic language, and If you feel that you would need to translate a lesson beforehand, please contact the mentors for guidance as stated here

Hi @Bethelhem-Gebre just like @Judith0001 stated you should contact the mentors if you feel that you would need to translate a lesson beforehand.

Also, as a contributor you can work on the translation of lessons to your local language. You would need to sign up to Oppia and in the drop down close to your avartar you open a contributor dashboard,

Then you switch tabs from "My contributions" to "Translate Text" select the language and subject you want to translate it will bring up available lessons to translate, then you can begin translating. It counts as contributions as well!

@Bethelhem-Gebre First of all, the learners you intend carrying out the research with, can they take the lessons in any of the available languages?

@Kebith yes. Students are actually available to take the test in English. But the issue is that as English is a secondary language kids get to learn in school, not every kid is able to do so. Just a percentage of them have manage to go through the entire lessons, according to what I have noticed so far. I am just trying to achieve a comprehensive research through inclusiveness.

Currently, we do not have an Amharic translation team, and we would need at least 3 people to set up a team, before we can approve translations.
It's up to you to decide what you would like to do.
