Tips from the Outreachy Contribution Stage: Final Application Coffee Chat held on the 21st of March, 2023.

How many of us joined the Outreachy coffee chat on YouTube today?

Here are some key learnings from the session:

1. Good communication, open mindedness, and positivity are values that will help you scale through the contribution stage.

Can being not part of google code summer be a reason for someone to be flagged out in the final stage?

No @ivutha2 , you don't need to be doing google code summer, it's not a requirement and hence it cannot be a reason for you to be flagged out

@ivutha2 It's only when you've interned at GSOC that you'll get flagged. I think you can't do both.

It was reiterated that for your final application to be complete you must have done at least one contribution.
Another thing, let’s do away with imposter syndrome, I mean I battled with it in the first two weeks. In my opinion we can do this. This contribution phase might seem a little bit complex but it has taught us so many things like how to make research, how to communicate in a community and so much more.

I pray we all have the strength to finish up💪

This is true @Fortunehechi this can be overwhelming at first, but thanks to you guys on this platform for making things less intimidating.
Please clarify, is it for submitting one task you're elegible to make the final application?

@Annejamju The Outreachy community manager kept saying "make at least one contribution" so I think task 1,2,3 count as one contribution.

Then the optional tasks count as a different contribution.

So, we can go right ahead to submit our final application after doing the compulsory task. We don't necessarily have to do any optional task.

For instance in AA baseline research plan,do you have to do the math lesson,skill tree and skill table for basic science topic and also create an online engaging science lesson,or you can just do one of the above and continue to fill the final application?

For the question you just asked I don't know if I understood it quite well but what I think is that working on 'AA baseline research' should be task 1.

Task 2 is the 'Suggestions for improving Oppia Lessons'

Task 3 is where skill tree comes in.

Creating online engaging lessons is the entirety of the project we are currently contributing to. So I think all these tasks are compulsory before submission of final application. The only ones excluded are the optional tasks.

But maybe we should wait for our mentors @AddisalemB and @Kebith to make it clear to us if we can do just one task.
