Concerning Optional Task (Task 4)

Please can anyone shed some light on optional task? It's a bit confusing to me. And does it by chance has anything to do with translation? I applied for volunteer translation but I haven't responded to their email yet.

Hi @JenniferOgwuche There are several optional tasks on Oppia's Project description. Translation of lessons is one of the optional task. And you can choose any of these to contribute to.

It's good you raised it here that you are yet to get a response for the translation @Kebith will get try attend to your application to be a translator.

There are four optional tasks you can select from.

1. Creating practice questions
2. Translating lessons into other languages
3. Creating arts for oppia lessons
4. Suggesting improvement for the listed oppia lessons.

You can choose to contribute to any of these.

Last week, @Kebith said she was going to see to it that our requests to volunteer for the translation team was looked into. let's give them time.

Hi @JenniferOgwuche Translation is just one of the optional task. You can go through the instructions below a couple more times so you understand it clearly. Also refer to @Amarachhhiii post #959. I hope this helps
Optional Tasks
You may contribute to the current lesson creation process through any combination of the following activities you choose (we recommend picking at most two). These are optional, but we strongly encourage you to contribute to them:

Creating practice questions:
Creating translations for lessons in either Spanish, Nigerian Pidgin, Brazilian Portuguese, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Arabic, Hindi, French, or Swahili.
Join the arts team to create images for lessons.
Play through the multiplication lessons on the Oppia website or Android app, to see what an ideal lesson should look like. (These lessons have already undergone significant testing and revision.) Try to get a feel of the pace and the way Oppia provides feedback.
Afterwards, play through 3 or more lessons from the topics: Decimals, Percentages on the Oppia website, Hygiene and Diseases [here], Matter and Money.

Assess the lessons in the topics above from a pedagogical perspective, focusing mainly on ensuring that learners don't get stuck in a way that stops them from progressing. Imagine you were using these lessons to help a sibling/neighbour with their homework or coursemates with understanding a difficult concept in class – what do you think might be hard for them to understand, and what would you suggest instead? For each lesson you assess, please make a copy of[ this suggestions template doc]

Note: Suggestions for each lesson/chapter in a topic should be compiled in separate docs.

Create a folder on Google Drive, label it as ‘Lesson Reviews Docs’, add all the docs to the folder and give edit access to [email protected]. Also, give view access to ‘anyone with the link’. Then, provide the link to the folder on the Outreachy website and record it as another contribution.

Each story chapter counts as a single lesson. The lessons you choose don’t need to all be in the same topic/subject. You can also submit suggestions for more than 3 lessons.
In general, we are more interested in meaningful pedagogical improvements (e.g. areas where students might experience blockage or be stuck, while playing the lessons, missing opportunities to give feedback, additional questions where appropriate etc.,) than minor word changes.
Give as many suggestions as possible in your review. Pick lessons/topics where you have enough suggestions to provide. Do not submit scanty reviews.
Note: It is important to be very clear and specific about what you are suggesting; this includes providing the suggested replacement text/image. The communication should be clear enough that a person who implements the suggestions should be able to do so independently, just by reading the document.
