I had this box running from a sdcard and decided to install it on the eMMC with armbian-install. The process finished successfully but the box was unable to boot from the sdcard or eMMC.

I was able to recover this box using Amlogic USB Burning Tool (from a Windows virtual machine with USB passthrough), and firmware for an X96 Max Plus 2.

where could the problem be?

encountering same issue on Armbian_24.2.0_amlogic_s905x3_bookworm_6.1.65_server_2023.12.06.img.

same hardware here.
SOC: S905x3 Model X96 Max Plus Ethernet RTL8211F (Gigabit) Wireless RTL8822CS 2,4/5GHz (two antennas) PCB ver. 3.1

and using 502 meson-sm1-x96-max-plus.dtb to boot and installed to emmc.

while flashed, some issue appear as:

  • can only boot with only etched usb plugged or burn emmc. no other usb device or sdcard, even a keyboard plugin will lead to a forever black screen, or saying bricked.

  • after success boot with all hardware green, then install docker, reboot, eth0 crash.

sorry for no uart to debug in advance.

Finally I was able to install armbian in emmc using model 525 (armbian-install -l yes) and all is working now.
