Request: update Save glyph to reflect technological advances past the floppy disk (or, even a hard drive).

The "Save" icon in general can be used to express multiple meanings like:

  • bookmark
  • save for later
  • pin
  • download
  • finish work
  • close
  • complete flow
  • save and create new location
  • put in storage
  • saving a document's state (saving a version)
Each of those actions will require their own set of metaphors.

Current use:

For the reasons such as

  1. keeping consistent form factor/easily recognizable shape
  2. keeping the metaphor broad/flexible enough
I suggest we go along with this https://dribbble.com/shots/1020838-Save-Icon-Concept, which is distributed under Creative Common license.

Explorations (WIP) based on this concept:

The icon grid/stroke/joint style is being determined formally for the glyph set and to be updated for this glyph.
