Moving the discussion here from #2
This is my progress so far https://github.com/Radivarig/atomspace-nix with instructions on how to jump right to the current blocker and a short description of the nix expressions used

Should I assume that this should eventually become a pullreq for https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs ? or is it something we should pull into the main opencog collection of repos?

I'd say pull it, there's more work needed before it's ready for nixpkgs. Ideally this would further be split into separate packages to make them available independently

Maybe the repository could be focused around nix shell for development with each of the packages? Then when a package is ready, we move it to nixpkgs and add example of package override to specify a custom revision

I'd say pull it

I guess what I really meant was "should I fork Radivarig/atomspace-nix into opencog/atomspace-nix?"

I see you transfered ownership. I transfered onwards to here: https://github.com/opencog/atomspace-nix

@linas I've got atomspace building with nix, so I think we can close this issue here. I've not added all the optional dependencies and am yet to test it properly but I'd say we continue nix specific discussions in the issue tracker there
