set sidebar.revamp to true, after setting this preference to true, restart Firefox to initialize the new sidebar.
set sidebar.verticalTabs to true, this preference will toggle the tabs between vertical and horizontal.
it only work after Firefox starts with sidebar.revamp on.
once in vertical mode you can click on Show sidebars, its the fourth button from the left (see image below), to fully open the tabs sidebar.
