I've moved over to Code Push which is now part of Microsofts App Center. That plugin is working much better and its free as well. Since this hot code push plugin seems to be no longer maintained, App Center code push is a very good alternative for ionic since it supports cordova as well: https://github.com/Microsoft/cordova-plugin-code-push

I'm not using Ionic, so very interested in what else I could use besides trying to get this to work (which is kind of suspect at this point)

It looks to me like Microsoft supports a system like this without needing Ionic: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/appcenter/distribution/codepush/cordova

I'm going to try this out in the next few weeks; fingers crossed it has no road blocks!

@sebastianovide ended up pushing the app without codepush since we are Android-first, but should be trying out in the next couple weeks as being able to update without releasing a new version is pretty important. I started going through the setup and it looks pretty easy!
