Hello,

This is a formal request for approval from nft.storage regarding the May 2025 upgrade of Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

"CHIP-2021-05 VM Limits: Targeted Virtual Machine Limits" and "CHIP-2024-07 BigInt: High-Precision Arithmetic for Bitcoin Cash" have achieved the Cash Improvement Proposal (CHIP) milestones required to be locked in on November 15, 2024 and activated on May 15, 2025.

The CHIP contributors believe nft.storage is an important stakeholder in the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem. Please respond by 12:00 UTC on November 14, 2024; non-responses will be considered "Abstain (Neutral)".

Does nft.storage approve of activating "CHIP-2021-05 VM Limits: Targeted Virtual Machine Limits" and "CHIP-2024-07 BigInt: High-Precision Arithmetic for Bitcoin Cash" in the May 2025 Upgrade to Bitcoin Cash (BCH)?

  • Yes (Approve)
  • No (Disapprove), or
  • Abstain (Neutral)

Separate responses may also be given for each CHIP. To make a public statement explaining this decision, please provide it here (required for disapprovals):

For reference:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Thank you for reaching out with this formal request regarding the upcoming Bitcoin Cash upgrade and its associated CHIPs. We appreciate being considered as a key stakeholder in the ecosystem.

At this point, we would like to inquire further regarding the rationale behind identifying NFT.Storage as a key stakeholder in the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem. Could you please elaborate on the reasoning behind this designation?

Thank you once again for contacting us, and we look forward to your response.

Best regards,
The NFT.Storage Team

NFT.storage is a popular choice for pinning BCH token metadata, see e.g. https://otr.cash/docs/list :

IPFS URIs for static data – The icon and other URIs for static data must use IPFS to enable caching and deduplication across registries, more resilient resource resolution, and data integrity guarantees. Consider using a pinning service like nft.storage.

By the way, you can see all stakeholders and responses so far tracked in each CHIP, e.g. https://github.com/bitjson/bch-vm-limits/blob/master/stakeholders.md

Thanks for the information. It seems like your docs are out of date, and the community might not have the latest news about NFT.Storage. The original NFT.Storage product (now called NFT.Storage Classic) includes NFTUp.
To align our services more closely with our community's needs and ensure the sustainability of our model, we're updating our service offerings. We'll continue to offer the current product under the name NFT.Storage Classic for existing uploads prior to 30 June 2024 , but no new uploads to the Classic product will be accepted as of 30 June 2024 at 5pm EST.

Can you please update the docs with the following:

NFT.Storage
The NFT.Storage flagship product focuses on the enduring preservation of NFTs with a low one-time fee per. First mint your NFTs, then send us the NFT data that we preserve in endowment-backed long-term Filecoin storage. As an NFT.Storage user, you support our platform when you choose Pinata and Lighthouse for hot storage and use our referral links here, helping to sustain our valuable public goods. Your NFTs will also be included in the NFT Token Checker, a tool for block explorers, marketplaces and wallets to show verification that NFT collections, tokens, and CIDs are preserved by NFT.Storage. Sign up today!

Preserve your NFTs with our low-cost, easy-to-use solution. We aim to ensure verifiable long-term storage, powered by smart contracts and backed by our on-chain endowment for ultimate transparency.

NFT.Storage Classic is a free service that provides hot data storage on the decentralized Filecoin network with fast retrieval through IPFS. As of June 30, 2024, we have officially decommissioned NFT.Storage Classic uploads, however retrieval of existing data remains operational. For NFT data already uploaded through NFT.Storage Classic, the NFT.Storage Gateway makes the data retrievable on block explorers, marketplaces and dapps.
