Ideas and discussion about more column types

Column types have to meet some requirements:

• the value have to be stored within a json string in the backend database
• it must be possible to render in the tabulator table grid
• have to be easy to use

would be cool to be able to have a "customer" list (and have contact from the NC "contacts" APP as a column)
then connect it to a list of documents for customer (it should hold reference to documents)
and a list of Tasks

it would make it possible to create a mini CRM :-) (sort of)

Me too! This would open a whole new era of tiny apps where you can structure data (in different tables) and fill them within your groups.

• sequential number with pre & suffix like ID

Yes, a unique identifier/primary key would be nice even if a toggle whether or not to display it. It would be really nice to have in a downloaded csv however.

How is this related to a user selector column type?

I came from the issue linked in #48 . I am assuming (I am not a developer) that if somehow the question on the form becomes the first row of a spreadsheet as if it was a header then each response that the general public makes to the form will make it a new row under each column?
to have this functionality I thought I understood the column will need a new type to allow for this?

Right, okay, understood.

There he also disregarded the idea to have a second interface to an app, forms in this case. Integration with it on the other hand… Probably there would be some mapping needed of Form types and Tables types, and perhaps adding some. But it really feels like duplicating the approaches. Another option to consider would be to import data not just from files, but also from froms (given it can already do a csv export, did not double check). A User type would nevertheless be necessary.

I guess it's not that easy with direct upload.

So I see two steps:

1. Column to link do files within NC -> maybe a recommendation function with the last edited/added files for selection...
2. Direct upload

A small inline preview and a button to open a modal viewer for a linked image would be awesome.
Option 1 would be a great option if option 2 takes a lot of work.

Images with small preview would be very handy.
For example in my organization we create a simple register of tools and it would be very handy to have a photo next to a selected tool.

Drop-down with Cascading or Dependent options... like State and County fields. You select a state and the County drop-down is limited to the particular State.

2. a general option to be addicted to a different column

I'm in with both lol. Also a column with the ability to select predefined tag and another to choose icons.
It'll be awesome to have column also to choose choose/select user.

Hey, awesome App,
I tried to made an easy table vor checking in our members, when they appear at our training.
But to edit the yes/no field, i have to edit the whole row. How is it to made checkboxes to click on in the table.

Another point ist the pagination.
On Desktop I see only 10 entrys. after every action or editing it went back to 10. Even if i select 30.
That makes me stupid ;-)

Hey, thanks for your feedback.

The one thing would be an inline edit feature. Thats really hard to do, but why not. I will put it on the roadmap (https://github.com/orgs/nextcloud/projects/74/views/2?pane=issue&itemId=19487904).
Maybe it would be an idea to bring that feature only for the checkbox columns...

For the pagination issue I have good news. I'm working an some views, that ones will define the size, position, entry numbers and so on. Thats what you are looking for I guess... :) Stay tuned.

• for creating reports, you might have a start date and an end date and wish to display the duration (end-start).
• you wish to have a SUM field for some numeric fields in the table
• you wish to have a SUM field for some numeric fields in a collection of tables
• you wish to have an overview on a collection of tables (sums, specific values like 'person')

Hi there ! Just discovered the Tables app today, it looks very promising :)

I got a few ideas for new field types (if you know Airtable, these should look familiar)

• a link field type to cross-reference rows from other tables. So the table app becomes a relational database system.
• related to the relational field type, Airtable has a "lookup" field that allows to select some fields from the linked table to display (read only) in the current table. So useful.
• a new field type to link files/folders hosted on the NC server. Interesting workflows in perspective. I see other people have had the same idea
• a new field type for (clickable) URLs
• a formula field with basic logical operators, concatenate etc, although this probably takes a lot of work

Thanks for the tables app.
Is it possible to have the progress bar define the Maximum number allowed. Seem to be 100 now, making it a percentage value...
Would be nice to have some defined Max, like f.e. 3 for a 3 step process.
(It would also require to put the max values near the end.

Even if its quite simple compared to some of the ideas above: phone numbers, email. That would help greatly to collect contact information in a structured way. In the short while we explored tables we already had users, who put two email addresses in a email address field that we realized with the text field. The result is not usable for mail merge etc. without some cleanup. Those simple types would ensure that contact information could be collected in a structured way.

With Mannhoch idea above (regex) this also would be possible, but regex for mail addresses aren't easy to formulate for users who aren't familiar with RFC2822 etc. (I just say: sub addressing…)

I am migrating from Google AppSheets and there's a few things from there that I would find really useful. Such things as:

• Defining how a field is viewed - for example:
  • Date or time format (2024-04-23, 23/04/2024, Monday, 23rd April, 2024, etc)
  • Display linked file as image (with possible dimensions imposed)
  • Generate image from external URL using field's data in the URL - this can be used to generate QR code (or other barcode) images in your form from an external QR code service.
• Ability to flag a field as "can be filled using barcode" then when on a device that supports barcode entry (mobile phone) it gives a barcode button to scan a barcode.
• Live adding new items to dropdown lists while adding rows to the table.

And of course a HUGE yes to proper relations between tables and records.
