In my system, everything is managed through external folders. The home directories for each user should be readonly.

It would be nice if the user account page had a checkbox "disable writes to home directory" option.

GitMate.io thinks possibly related issues are #3041 (Deleting a preview folder stops writing previews to disk), #8534 (No Home access after moving shared folders), #7588 (Folder permissions), #6583 (LDAP Home Folder Mapping), and #6449 (Data folder accessible if "Satisfy Any" is set).

Just set the quota to 0. 😉
